Christmas Party

Hi everyone,  I hope everyone is doing well on Veteran’s Day.  We all had a good time working on our scratch art Saturday, I need lots of work on my project.  I think Janice, Sue, Barbara and Joann were done with their project. The pictures looked very nice.

We did not have a meeting, but did talk about Seminar business for next year.  We need to talk about having a seminar for next year.

I hope everyone is ready for our Christmas Party on December 5, 2015.  I would like a vote on whether we have Turkey or Ham and how many of our club members will be attending?  Oh can someone please bring soda or water.  I am working on my Dirty Santa Christmas Ornaments.  I always look forward to see what everyone has made.

Thank you Barbara E.  for coordinating with Heather Mitchell.  She had a few of her art pieces to show how she mixed color into the scratch art.

If I have missed something, please let me know.

Jacky

Don't forget to bring your ornaments for the ornament exchange.  You can bring up to five ornaments in brown paper bags and you will get to select five from the ones brought by other members.  For the dirty Santa please bring a gift valued between $15-$20 if you choose to participate, wrapped, but do not put who it is from.  Also, we will have lunch so a covered dish is always welcomed.  The meeting starts at 10 am with lunch following.  See you there.

I am sending this post on Thanksgiving Day.  I hope each of you have a wonderful dinner with family and friends and a chance to reflect on what is really important in our lives.  I am very grateful this Thanksgiving to have great painting friends like you so Happy Thanksgiving, y'all.

Stamping Techniques

I received this from Margaret for the members.

I found this web page a while back and thought maybe the members would like to look at it for detailed information on using various art materials. The page is VSN Stamp Techniques Home - Your Best Source of Stamping Information

It has lots of free downloadable and printable articles on how to use art materials, brayers, gelli prints, markers, etc. Very informative.   The title says rubber stamp techniques but the information is good for using other mediums besides acrylic paints for painting projects.

September Paint In UPDATE

I just wanted to let y'all know that Jacky's mother passed away Thursday morning.  I don't have the details, I only know she had a fall and was in Hospice.  Please keep Jacky and her family in your prayers during this difficult.

I received this from Barbara for the class on Saturday.

For the ornament we are painting Saturday, I have plenty of small square wood ornaments for everyone and I will bring all the paints.  Everyone should bring their regular painting and tracing supplies and a few small brushes and a liner brush.  The ornament is not big and hopefully we will be able to finish it in class.  Because the piece is not big everyone can basecoat the background.  The colors will be slightly different because I converted them to Decoart colors.

I will probably not make it Saturday but if my back holds up I might stop in for a bit just to get out of the house.  If not, y'all have fun.

Meeting Paint In 12 September

Several of you already know the story of my encounter with one of those large roaches.  That encounter caused a fracture in the radial and scaphoid bone in my left hand which led to having my rings cut off and wearing a large heavy cast.  My wedding band could not be pulled apart and had to be cut in two places.  The one thing I love about the Navy Hospital is the amount of attendees when they are doing any kind of procedure.  The doctor decided to try the string method to remove my rings.  There were two nurses, 4 corpsmen, a receptionist and a doctor trying to remove the rings without cutting.  It didn't work but it was nice to have the whole urgent care department in the room.

From this:

To this:

I was miserable to say the least.  I had the cast off yesterday after pleading to the doctor but am still wearing a splint.  I still have to see the orthopedic doctor for a final say on what the next step is going to be but it is my hope it not require any surgery or any more casts.

Anyway, I received the cutest card from Sue.  Sue has a natural talent for making all things cute. This is the card she sent....see the little roses?  I think she's been practicing and doing very well, don't you?

I have asked Barbara to get someone to paint next month since it is difficult using my thumb.  As soon as I know what the project will be I will post it here until then stay tuned.

Meeting and Paint In for 1 August

For our paint in this weekend, Debbie is furnishing everything you will need for the class.  You need only to bring something to share at the pot luck lunch and $15.00 for the class.  Please bring the right amount of change.

Thank you to Jacky and Joan for teaching the angel and cornucopia last month.  Some of us - I'm not naming names, Sandy, found out that a glue gun is really hot!!  But it was a fun class and we appreciate the girls for sharing.

See y'all tomorrow.

Continuing with our Christmas in July theme, we will once again be painting Christmas ornaments.  Please bring your regular painting supplies.

A note from Jacky:

Joanne Allen will be teaching the Victorian Cornucopia – you will need sharp scissor, paper glue and a ruler.  I will have the wooden angel – you will need your normal painting supplies.  Hope to see you all.

Jacky

Sue sent out the directory.  You now have the choice of printing it out, saving it to your computer and for the few who do not have Internet access, Sue will bring in a few copies.  See you tomorrow.

Christmas In July

Our Christmas in July Ornament Paint In will be held 11 July 2015.  Due to the holiday we decided to move one week later, so don't forget and show up because we won't be there.  We will finish out our Christmas in July with ornaments being painted by several of the ladies in the club.  I haven't received info on what you will need to bring but will post as soon as I do.  We are doing great with the sale of our donated books and I will be bringing another check to the next meeting.  Lots of work but so worth it.  Check back with us next week to see what our projects will be.

MAY CLASS AND PAINT IN CANCELLED

As you all should know by now, Saturdays class has been cancelled.  As summer approaches we all have priorities with family - holidays, graduations, vacations, visits, etc., and this limits our time for the club activities.  It's understandable, we all go through this. So, hopefully we will see each other for the June meeting - not sure what is scheduled yet but we will forward information as soon as we get it.  In the meantime, enjoy the video below.  Isn't it amazing what someone can do with wall mud?

Saturday, April 11, 2015

Good Afternoon everyone:  If you are interested in doing Zen tangle, please send me an email for a head count.  We all had fun for April’s class.  Hope everyone is doing well this week.  Looking forward to May’s class.

 Jacky

From Janice L:

Jacky, below is the project that I am planning to do at our May meeting. I will need an accurate head count to ensure that I bring adequate handouts.

There are sixteen tangles in this Garden Wreath. Only two may be considered somewhat difficult, and one is my design.

I will provide two paper tiles to each participant, one round and one rectangular.  In addition, I will provide print handouts with each completed tangle and will teach the step outs of each during the morning portion of the meeting. The step outs and then the drawing are estimated to take at least four hours.

Participants will need both an 01 and 05 black Micron pen and paper on which to practice the step outs. Those are the only required supplies. If anyone wants to add color, I suggest colored/watercolor pencils, since these are easy to transport.

This project should be relaxing and fun to do. Socializing with one's neighbors during drawing is recommended!

The cost for the class is $25 per person.  No checks please.

How To Make a Colored Pencil Storage Carousel (Tutorial)

Having fun at Retreat!!

As most of you know some of our members attended the Wiregrass Decorative Painters Retreat last month.  Of course, we had a great time painting with these lovely ladies but we also had some down time to just enjoy being together.  What better time is spent than trying to reverse the aging process - hence - these great photos.

Sandy doing her thing.

Debbie making sure the pad is on right.

I must say they all looked ten years younger after removing those wonderful eye pads brought by Janice Smith.  Who would have thunk it???  See what you missed!!  Unfortunately, Sue and I spent our time painting so we still look the same.

I have been busy selling books and will have another check for the club this month.  I want to thank those who donated the books, Jane Toman, Margaret, Joan, Pat Hutchins, Sherry and I am sure there were more but I didn't write it down, I apologize but I do appreciate it.  I am taking a break from posting the books for a few weeks.  I have a niece coming in for a visit so I have to clean up the extra bedroom.  Also, Jane Toman donated some wood pieces which we set out for the taking and asked for donations from those who are going to paint wonderful things on those surfaces.  I don't remember what we made but Diane will give a report at the meeting.  It will be nice to see some of the paintings you are doing.  See you Saturday.

April's Meeting Paint In with Jacky

For Aprils Meeting/Paint In  - I picked from one of Ros Stallcup books for the class.   The surface can be on anything you want.  I painted mine on a clay pot.  The size of your clay pot is up to you.  Medium to large is what I painted on.  Bring your painting supplies, if you think you want to do the clay pot you will need to seal your pot with Multi-Purpose sealer.
I painted a couple of things, the main picture that I chose is in Grans Painting Place, the picture is on page 29.

A Club with Many Talents...

Our ladies did a great job on their flowers this month.  Although we are a painting club it is nice to take a break and do something different.  Diane graciously offered to teach this magnolia and everyone had a great time doing it.  I believe these are from Sue, Sandy, and Janice L.
Thanks, Diane.

Our winners from October's guess who was in the black cape were Sandy and Janice L.  They each won a small prize - and they were the only ones to email an answer!!  We will have these guessing games throughout the year so let's all participate!

Now that the year has ended we need volunteers to teach next year.  We will paint our name tags in January, we have Heather Mitchell's pencil class scheduled in February, and we have several people already signed up for the Christmas ornament classes in July and August.  Start thinking now what you can teach next year....and remember if you feel you aren't talented enough (not true) then team up with another member.

Our Christmas party was a lot of fun.  We changed up the regular old Dirty Santa game and even though the presents went around a lot of times we almost ended up back in the same spot.  Thanks to all who participated.  Next year Sue has a thought on a new game.  It will be fun!!

Our next meeting will be January 10th at 10 am.  We hope to see you there.
